Here at Pro-Clockers, we have already reviewed and took a look at many laptop coolers over the years. Some are simply a cooler, some coolers turn into stands and some have even served as a USB port for many different peripherals. Today, I get to check out a laptop cooler that is a little different from these which I just mentioned. We are taking a look at the DeepCool M6 Audio Cooling Pad. You read that right! This cooling pad has secondary speakers for your laptop which is a brilliant idea to me since many laptops' audio gear is way underperforming.

Introduction

Here at Pro-Clockers, we have already reviewed and took a look at many laptop coolers over the years. Some are simply a cooler, some coolers turn into stands and some have even served as a USB port for many different peripherals. Today, I get to check out a laptop cooler that is a little different from these which I just mentioned. We are taking a look at the DeepCool M6 Audio Cooling Pad. You read that right! This cooling pad has secondary speakers for your laptop which is a brilliant idea to me since many laptops' audio gear is way underperforming.

Deep Cool's take on the M6

Deepcool is a leading manufacturer of desktop CPU coolers, Notebook coolers, VGA coolers, DC case fans. They recently announced a new high-end gaming notebook cooler with 2.1 speaker system— the DeepCool M6. With a stunning gaming-theme design and high quality stereo system, the DeepCool M6 laptop cooler is perfect for enthusiastic gamers and audiophiles.

Absolute Gaming Appearance, A Stereo Engine
When the designer was indulged in his gaming Need for SpeedTM, he forgot his work; when he’s back to work, the roaring in the ear inspired him to craft a notebook cooler which can combine the looks of a luxurious sports car and the stunning sound effect of its engine. That’s M6!

The front end is designed in triangular shape with a lean edge, just like a sports car illustrates aerodynamics to the maximum. The sleek design also features the silver-red side windows and fully covered black metal mesh at the top.

Built-in 2.1 speaker system owns 2 tweeters on both sides and 1 woofer in the middle. The speaker cavity inside M6 is extended to the maximum to give you the most auditory pleasure when gaming. “I love the engine!” He said.

Be Gaming, Be Cool
A gaming laptop may heat up very fast and need a good cooler to ensure its operation. With a built-in 14cm fan, M6 can cool down your gaming laptop and you can indulge yourself as long as you wish. If you want to rest after playing, you can turn down the fan speed with the control knob.

The Power Engine for External Devices
M6 is also equipped with 1 USB 2.0 input port and 4 output ports for your additional external USB devices. With a standard 3.5” audio jack, you can easily swap between your gaming headset and M6 gaming speakers. If you just plug too many high current consumption devices, just add on a 5V AC/DC adapter to this power engine through the built-in Micro USB input.

Closer look

Let's get through the preliminaries here really quick. The DeepCool M6's external shelling is made of black plastic. Quick observation shows it to be pretty sturdy. For its size, the pad is fairly light only weighing around 3.3 pounds. Most of the weight is distributed in the area of the speakers.

At 17.95" long the DeelCool M6 is wide enough to support laptops as large as those with 17" inch screens. The rest of the measurements are 14.09" in length and is 2.95" at its thickest point.

The DeepCool M6 laptop cooler's surface is angled 10° to better comfort the end user.

Looking at an overview of the M6, you will instantly notice the large 140mm cooling fan assembled in the middle. According to DeepCool, the hydro-bearing fan has a rotation speed of 700 to 1100 RPM. It blows just over 47 CFM of air while remaining under 21 dBA during operation.

Also visible from looking at the top of the unit is 1/3 of the audio speaker setup. The gray circular object is a 2.25" subwoofer and hidden from the surface are two unseen 2" tweeters. The audio system as a whole has a frequency range of 180Hz to 15KHz. This just tells us we should get decent highs and average lows when it comes to sound reproduction. The system has a total of 5 watts.

To complete the aggressive look of the top are two red vents (one of each side). This is where any warm air is exited.

DeepCool wants this to be a complete cooling and audio solution, so they integrated a four USB 2.0 port hub in the pad. Apparently, a standard USB port hub would be lacking in power to be able to support many devices off of it. But there is a remedy for this, read on.

Across from the USB hub is a series of plugs for an external power adapter that is not included with the M6. As you can see the connector is a standard micro-USB port so a third party AC/DC adapter should not be hard to find. The next plug is a 3.5mm audio jack to connect the pad's speakers to your laptop. The USB port is also used to connect the pad to the laptop and to power it. Lastly, we have the knob to control the speed of the fan.

A series of rubber bumpers keep the bottom of the DeepCool M6 off the surface. There is also a small channel in the center which allows air to enter the cooler as well as audio to flow out.

Usage Images

The only feature I wish was added to the M6 would be a way to hide or fix the cables to where they are not dangling around. But other than that using the M6 is straightforward.

Conclusion

The DeepCool M6 Gaming cool pad offer two really good purposes if you ask me. The first we will comment on is the audio. My initial thoughts on the audio before even trying it was that it would be less than mediocre quality and low sound level simply because this has been my experience with small speaker systems aimed at laptop users. To my surprise, this was not the case. The audio quality was superb than that of my Sony laptop. The high notes were well represented while the lows were a little lacking but not by much. Then the volume level was twice powerful than those of the laptop's default speakers. This was enough to conclude that the M6 is a great product because listening to music on my laptop was not really enjoyable.

Now, we proceed to the cooling aspect of the DeepCool M6 Gaming cooler. The cooler comes with one large 140mm located in the lower middle of the pad. This was good for decent cooling but maybe using two fans located more to the sides of the cooler would have resulted in lower temperatures. In my case, this is where my GPU and CPU would be located. For my HDD (SSD) and memory, the M6's default fan location was right on the spot.

An added bonus feature on the M6 is the four port USB hub. Out of the box, you may not be able to run too many power-hungry devices but it is there for the less demanding products. A simple remedy to this is to add in a 5V AC/DC power adapter, which could be a simple microUSB charger unit that many mobile phones use.

The DeepCool M6 MSRP is around $50 making it a nice buy.
