Closer look

To begin the Kone+ boast a ton of features that would put it in the class of other gamming mice. It begins with its sensor which ranges from 400-6000 DPI, a software application that will allow the user to program their own macros for various applications including games and comfortable to use. And the changing lighting system adds to its adorability.

Roccat packed all these features into one of the best looking mouse I have seen to date. We all know that looks isn’t everything but we will get into the testing later. The Kone+ surface is a mixture of plastic and rubber to give it its sleek styling. The rubber portion allows the gamer to keep his hands on the mouse and eyes on the game.

The Kone+ has a total of seven buttons all pre-assigned with basic task. The user can change all this with the aid of the software that comes with the mouse. The -/+ located at the top also the user to switch DPI rates, while the scroll wheel not only rolls forth and back but can tilt left and right. The button just forward of the scroll wheel acts as the same as the Windows key.

The Kone+ guides across your choice of pads with the help of three stripes of Teflon. Looking close you can see the laser in the center of the surface. The rear Teflon pad surrounds the location where the weights are added to the mouse. Turning the lid will expose four holding pads for each of the 5g weighs.

Software

Opening the software for the time time will lead you to the main control page. Within this page you detail the speeds which the mouse will run at like the DPI and mouse wheel. Once the DPI is set its just a matter of pressing the DPI button on the mouse to gain access to each setting.

The button assignment screen is one of the simplier screen within this software package. The left side of the sccreen simply allows you to assign the buttons of the mouse to do whatever you want them to do. The right side is very similar but you program the button to do a particular task when the EasyShift key is pressed.

The Kone+ has several preset combinations of colors but you can add even more using your own imagination.

Too further customize the Kone+, the Advanced tag allows you to control the sensitivity of the X/Y axis as well as the sound feedback when adjusting some of the on-the-fly options.

This page makes it easier to go get updated driers for the Kone+.

Testing and Usage

Obviously, testing a gaming mouse starts from the first time you place your hand on the unit. This initial testing procedure results in us feeling very pleased with the Kone+. Getting a comfortable gap on the mouse took just a couple of seconds and we were off and running. But without the weighs added in the mouse is way too light, so we immediately added all the weighs to the unit and it became much more to our liking. The long sleek body of the Kone+ allowed my fingers to maneuver the mouse with precise accuracy.

Gaming is the ideal way to test a gaming mouse…..obviously. And that is just what we did, play a few games a lot. One of the games I am fond of is Call of Duty: Black Ops. No matter the map that was selected, no matter the distance across the screen and no matter the size of the target we were aiming on, the Kone+ proved to be very accurate. Many of us are extremely good at fragging with the mouse’s DPI set at or near the max. I am not one of the ‘us’ as I had the mouse set between 1600 and 3200 DPI and found it was best for me.

Conclusion

The Roccat Kone+ falls right in line with many of the classic gaming mice we love. Offering all the features that make for a good gaming mouse like high DPI setting, macros assigning, multi-function button via EasyShift and color changing lighting gives the Kone+ a serious ‘wow’ feature.  The Kone+ proved to be comfort and a breeze to use. The software that accompany it can make things more complex but easy to learn.

The only two things we could find that may not make the Kone+ the ideal mouse for some would be the pricing. We shopped the internet looking for the mouse and found that it goes for as much as $99. A little pricey for many. The next item would be that it is not ideal for those that are left handed.
