Final Thoughts & Conclusion

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero Motherboard

Of the handful of Z370 boards we’ve tested so far, this Maximus X is kind of our Hero, and that’s not just its name. The performance was impressive from start to finish with the Hero taking first place in the majority of our test suites and programs. Things got even better when we started pushing things overclocking. ASUS built-in overclocking systems have gotten better and better, and this generation it managed to about tie our manual attempts as far as peak clock speed was concerned. This took a few mouse clicks, one reboot and about 30 seconds to do, vs about an hour of doing it manually. Once ASUS gets to the point it overclocks our ram as aggressively and as perfectly as its doing CPU’s, we’ll be able to hang up out overclocking hat and just push a few buttons going forward for the best possible performance.

Aesthetics of this new ROG series boards are subjectively quite beautiful. The metallic silvers, greys, and blacks look amazing while being able to blend well with any color accent, or all of them via RGB. The RGB lighting on the board itself looks great, and the plethora of RGB headers means the rest of your build can blend right in. The features list is long as is a number of useful software tools the board comes with. The latest connectivity is all present from USB 3.1 gen 2 to multiple Turbo M.2 ports supporting Optane and RAID.

We can’t find a single fault with this motherboard, and it was an absolute pleasure to test out. Great job ASUS!
