Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The ROG Strix X99 Gaming is Asus’ first ROG Strix and the only ROG Strix X99 motherboard. Since its release, it’s proven to be quite popular. I’m sure the long list of features has quite a bit to do with that. Having ROG linage certainly does as well. But is it well earned?
The ROG Strix X99 Gaming feels very refined. From the looks and feel of the board itself to the BIOS, it all just seems right. Every jack, header, and connector is placed exactly where one would expect it. The multiple software utilities are intuitive and have a unified feel. Asus’ Aura Sync lighting system looks great as well and has more than enough customization features to satisfy just about any user.
Looks are superficial to some and for most, performance is what they’re greatest concern. The Strix performed near the top of our battery of tests the majority of the time. Overclocking was rather impressive as well. No matter which method we chose to overclock we were greeted with at least 4.1 GHz. Manually overclocking netted us 5.0 GHz.
The Asus ROG Strix X99 Gaming is listed for $334.99 on Newegg and Amazon at the time of this review, putting right in the middle of X99 pricing. That is exactly where it should be. Unless you’re in need of something extreme, there really isn’t any need to spend more.
Like all their motherboards, Asus backs up the ROG Strix X99 Gaming with a 3 year warranty.
- Excellent UEFI BIOS Design
- Great Overclocking Ability
- Well Thought-out Features and Utilities
