Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Just slapping the word “Gaming” on a motherboard does not make it a gaming motherboard. It needs a great design and feature set to go that tailors to the gaming enthusiast. The Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 does not fail in this regard. The included software features a great design and is completely relevant to how the board might be used. The Killer E2200 from Qualcomm Atheros, gold plated audio hardware, and multi-GPU support are must have hardware on any gaming motherboard.
There is no doubting the overclocking ability of the Z97MX-Gaming 5 either. A stable 4725 MHz clock on the i7 4790K proves that. Throughout the testing the Z97MX-Gaming 5 showed average to above average scores time for the most part. I tried to find fault with the board, but there just wasn’t any to be found. The layout is logically thought out. Not a single header, port, switch, or jack seems to be improperly placed.
The Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 is commonly found as low as $134.99 at Amazon and other popular online stores. This a fair price for a motherboard of the caliber.
