The Patriot Ignite is one of the newest SSD to hit the market and one of the first to use the recently released Phison S10 controller. The Ignite supports TRIM, NCQ, and AES 256-bit Encryption. Advanced wear-leveling and ECC Recovery keep the data protected. End-to-end data path protection (ETEP), a feature typically found in enterprise SSD’s, is here as well. The Ignite uses Micron’s 16nm asynchronous MLC with a 512MB DDR3 buffer. The Ignite also has a very attractive price tag.
The Vector 180 uses the Toshiba's own Indilinx Barefoot 3 M00 controller, a slightly over-clocked version of the Barefoot 3 M10 controller used in OCZ's in the ARC and Vertex 460(s) drives. The Vector 180 uses the same Toshiba 19nm Multi-Level Cell (MLC) Flash as well. Given the performance we saw with the Vertex 460 we reviews a while back, we are expecting good things from the Vector 180.
USB 3.0 is all the rage these days and it's easy to see why. It's MUCH faster than the older 2.0 so transferring large files takes a fraction of the time. Kingston has just released its HyperX Savage SATA SSD line. The HyperX Savage will be replacing the venerable HyperX 3K that has been with us for some time. With sequential speeds up to 560MB/s read and 530MB/s write, plus IOPS up to 100,000 read and 89,000 write, it is designed to be the fastest SATA-based SSD in the HyperX line up. The new drive has rather bold cosmetics that should appeal to many enthusiasts.
G.SKILL decided some time ago to branch out to the SSD market. Their SSD product have pretty much stayed under the radar, but G.SkILL apparently is l;ooking to change all that with the Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD. Rated at 2000MB/s in both read and write, it is certainly fast. The Phoenix Blade is not a native PCIe, though it utilizes a PCIe 2.0 x8 interface. Instead, there are four SandForce SF-2282 controllers in RAID 0. Each SF-2282 controller is connected to eight 16GB Toshiba 64Gbit 19nm MLC NAND packages. Perhaps the most interesting feature on the Phoenix Blade is its endurance rating of 1536TB or 1.4TB per day. No, that isn’t a typo.
Today we will be looking at Kingston’s HyperX Predator 480GB M.2 PCIe SSD. Kingston will be offering this drive in a M.2 form factor or paired with an optional half-height, half-length (HHHL) adapter for use on desktop motherboards without a built-in M.2 socket. It features read speeds of up to 1.4GB/s and write speeds of up to 1GB/s via a Marvell 88SS9293 controller and Toshiba A19 Toggle NAND.
Crucial’s MX100 512GB SATA SSD is one of the newer entries in the crowded solid state drive market. The MX100 uses the same Marvell 88SS9189 controller as the M550 we tested some time ago. On paper the specs are very similar as well. The rated speeds of up to 550 MB/s read and 500 MB/s write are that same as the M550. New Micron 16nm flash replaces the 20nm flash that was used in the M550.
