Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC Edition 8GB 11Gbps is everything I thought it would be, outstanding. The 10% increase in memory speeds offers improved frame rates and is well matched to the 2560 Cuda cores. It easily outpaced the GTX 1080 FE in every benchmark. No matter what the resolution, it always delivered impressive frame rates. I found it difficult to run all the benchmarks without partaking in playing a bit as well.
Thanks to the massive 3 fan cooler, the Strix GeForce GTX 1080 never got warmer than 60°c. At no time did I ever really notice any significant fan noise. I found myself checking the fans a couple of times to see if they were even working. The two additional 4-pin external fan headers are a nice touch that isn’t often seen.
The RGB lighting is very well done. The area around the fans is subtle and the ROG eye logo on the backplate looks great. As a bonus, if the user has other Asus and/or Aura compatible products, a full version of Aura is available for download that will allow control of the lighting for those products as well.
As one might expect, a video card of this caliber isn’t cheap. Indeed, the ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC Edition 8GB 11Gbps is listed for $589.99 at Newegg.com. That price is in-line with the competition. Can you really put a price on a smile?
