Aerocool’s take on the Vx-9 Pro

Think “size, think “Vx-9 Pro”!!!  It’s Aerocool’s new 9 bay concept case.  The Vx-9 Pro is a new model under the PGS-V series (Performance Gaming System – Value series).  As the name suggested this lean mean stylish machine represents speed, size, performance, quality, flashiness and value.

Speed – it has a 3 speed fan controller (stop, cruise, turbo mode) supporting up to 20 Watts of power.

Size – the Vx-9 Pro chassis has 9 x 5 ¼” bays, 1 HDD cage that is able to fit up to 3 x HDD’s and 1 set of FDD/HDD adaptors, it’s one of the most expandable chassis in the market today.

Performance – the high quality SECC chassis with a depth of 456mm to support most high-end VGA cards in the market (up to 310mm in length).  The Vx-9 Pro case can also pump out airflow like no other, the steel mesh design front panel with dust filter allows maximum air flow.  The chassis also support to 5×12/14cm fans (the top panel alone can support 2x14cm fans) and 1x20cm fan on the side panel in different positions to cool your system.  It is a perfect gaming machine.

Quality – the Vx-9 Pro case is beautifully finished with “mirror-finishing” front and top panel design.  The combination of high quality SECC chassis with no scratch corners and screw-less systems make this case an easy install Flashiness – the “clean line” design with “toughness” and “rock solid” feel makes this case a “spotlight” when you attend lan parties.

Value – last but not least, this chassis represents great value.  It offers the highest CP ratio (cost to performance ratio) and it is a “must have”!!

Overall, the Vx-9 Pro chassis is perfect solution for enthusiast and gamers!!

Packaging and Contents

The Vx-9 Pro was shipped in a plain brown box with black graphics on it.  Nothing very fancy or colorful, but It did provide useful information on the contents and highlighted its many key features and its listed specs.  Inside it was well protected and came with a nicely secured bag of parts.

The only bad thing I noticed when opening shipping box was that one of the front panels had fallen off.  Not quite sure what could have caused that, since I put it back together and it was not easily knocked out of place.

Closer look at the VX-9 Pro from the outside

Like I told you earlier, the first thing that struck me was the shiny “mirror-finishing” on the front and top panels, it comes well protected with cling-wrap meaning that when you get it and unwrap it, its shiny and fingerprint free (won’t stay that way long though).  You will also notice that it doesn’t look like any other case on the market that I have seen.  Innovative unique designs are always a plus.

The Vx-9 Pro does not have a side window, but instead ships with a massive 200mm fan, while this isn’t the largest fan you will find in Aerocool’s lineup, but it is a massive fan.

It comes with the obligatory top headphone and MIC plug in along with 2 USB ports.  The feature that caught my eye is the built in fan controller.  It will control up to 20 watts worth of fans and includes:  Cruise control where all fans run at 60%, this is the silent mode, Turbo mode where all fans operate at max speed for those intense gaming or overclocking times, and Stop mode where all fans stop, the true silent fan mode.  And of course you will find the power and reset buttons located on top.

The Vx-9 Pro back panel includes water cooling ports, although they aren’t surrounded with rubber grommets like most you see these days, but if you’re after water cooling you will certainly appreciate having them available, no more hole cutting or routing them out card slots for you.  You will also notice that the power supply is placed low for improved interior cooling.

If you take a look at the bottom you will notice solidly mounted rubber feet, not something you normally pay attention to, but I have lost many of those “stick-on” feet.

A closer look at the Vx-9 Pro from the inside

Opening up the side panel you are first confronted with a massive 200mm fan running from 800 to 2000rpm that will push up to 76cfm at max speed, plenty of side cooling for your hot parts.  But what else would you expect from a company that specializes in PC cooling systems.

You’ll also see a center guide pin for helping install your motherboard.  I know, it’s not that hard to do yourself, but no one is going to argue that this isn’t a helpful feature, added by a company that listens and understands where the DIY customer is coming from.  Another nice fact is the width that will allow you to run your new, ¾ mile long video cards, well maybe not that long, but up to 307mm.  This is a big plus for those of you wanting plenty of space without buying a full size tower.

You’ll find a 3xHDD cage and a 5.25” bay which includes a 3.5” HDD adapter, both tool-less.  Whatever the size you need, you will find plenty of space for your HDD’s, optical drives or whatever front panel goodies you have purchased.

On the bottom you will see pre-drilled holes for the power supply’s fan exhaust, along with an optional location for a 120mm fan, or leave the fan out and use your extended length power supply and you’ll find nothing there to get in the way.

It comes with a rear 120mm fan and on top panel you can use either 2x120mm or 2x140mm fans with preset screw locations.

Your front panel is set up for another optional 120mm fan right in front of the HDD cage.  Another big plus is that the entire front panel is made of steel mesh and is covered inside with a dust cover, huge bonus there.  The only two issues I had were the power button that wouldn’t line up and the labeling for the fan controller, it was starting to separate, nothing major, but something to deal with.

Conclusion

I would like to thank Aerocool for providing the VX-9 Pro for our review today.  I really like this case and it’s going to be filled with the new pc parts I’m putting together to replace my old system.  As of 20 Aug 09, the Aerocool Vx-9 Pro is currently priced at $85.99.  This makes the case a must have for those budget minded builders and those who are looking for serious cooling solutions.  The front panel mesh, massive fans and tons of fan slots will have you seeing faster overclocks on air.  I have seen and used quite a few tool-less designs and I found Aerocool’s version to be extremely easy to use and leaves you feeling secure about your parts safety.  I would have liked to see this carry over to the PCI slots, but for those that move their PC’s around a lot you are better off using screws to secure them.  When you look at this case and its cooling properties you can appreciate Aerocool’s specialized cooling knowledge for protecting your hot pc parts.
