TFT Tier List: Team Fight Tactics, League of Legends

Published

on

As the biggest LoL fan in the entire online world via self-proclamation, it only makes sense to have an updated and recharged TFT Tier List that will come right after our revamped ultimate URF Tier List. I mean, have you ever came across an avid LoL fan that never placed TFT? NO! That’s because TFT is a very addictive, engaging, and fun auto-chess game that will leave you aching for more time (ugh, life getting in the way of playing, right?) and rounds to play in spite of having a seemingly endless losing streak (cross my heart, I am not talking about myself).

This is a major update. We added sections for origins and classes with all the characters under each category as well as their strengths and weaknesses. We also added a section for patch updates and FAQs.

To the unfortunate souls who are still yet to be blessed with the exhilarating experience of playing TFT, let me briefly explain to you what this game is all about. Teamfight Tactics, better known as TFT, is an auto-chess round-based strategy game that lets players fight against seven opponents in a free-for-all race to build a powerful team. As one of the most successful spin-offs of the great great great (yes, one “great” is not enough) League of Legends, TFT is made up of the very same heroes you can find in LoL. The only difference is in TFT, instead of playing as one of the many champions in LoL, you get to be your own self with a controllable and customizable avatar called “Little Legend.”

To avoid having a win drought that’s brought about by a painfully long losing streak (again, not talking about myself here but of the general public), there are two things you have to really focus on in this game: team composition and character strength. Now, before you can even think of creating the OG team, you must first get to know each and every character to the best of your ability. With the latest patch (Patch 11.19 which we will talk about in detail later) to Set 5.5 Reckoning: Dawn of Heroes spelling very meaningful changes to the game, I strongly believe that the best way to acquaint yourself with all the heroes available to you is by looking through a tier list — LIKE THIS ONE!

TFT TIER LIST

As with any other tier list, we will be using the categories S, A, B, C, and D in grouping our heroes based on their performance in the current meta. The S-tier will refer to the optimal heroes, the so-called cream of the crop at the moment. On the other hand, D-tier will pertain to heroes that just don’t fit into a strong comp at all.

Because of the recent adjustments and buffs caused by the new patch, you might see your go-to hero in a tier higher or lower than you initially expected BUT that’s totally fine. As mentioned, team composition (and the synergies it can spark) matters in this game just as much as the character’s abilities.

Next are all the details, skills, and strategies for the characters in our TFT Tier List: SS-Tier

TFT TIER LIST: SS-TIER ‘S SKILLS, MOVESETS & STRATEGIES

AKSHAN

As you may have already guessed, the great Akshan’s special ability is his infamous heroic swing. When passive, this ability can reduce a target’s armor by 50% for 4 seconds. When active, it will cause Akshan to launch his grappling hook towards the farthest enemy — gaining up to 400% bonus attack speed for 4 seconds.

Item Build: Bloodthirster > Deathblade > Guinsoo’s Rageblade

GAREN

Renamed as God-Lion’s Justice, Garen’s special ability (which is originally Demacian Justice) calls down a mighty sword that is not only capable of striking a large area around his target but also of dealing as much as 200% of the target’s maximum health as magic damage. To make things even more holy his deathly attacks can also reduce the opponent’s magic resistance by 50% for 8 seconds. Pretty sweet huh?

Item Build: Gargoyle Stoneplate > Sunfire Cape > Warmog’s Armor

IVERN

Like Akshan, Ivern’s ability is also based on his Lol ability Daisy! Contrary to its sweet sweet name, Daisy! (don’t forget the exclamation point) is an ability that allows Ivern to summon Daisy who can cast Shockwave upon arrival. To make Daisy even more powerful, Ivern can grant Daisy up to 300 ability power to cash Shockwave once again.

KAYLE

Appearing as Viridian Kayle, Kayle’s special ability Divine Ascent is nothing short of miraculous. During the first ascent, it can deal as much as 1000% AD bonus true damage. On the second, her basic attacks will explode around the target and then deal bonus true damage to all nearby enemies. Then, on the third, it will grant her damage immunity for 1 second. Finally, on the very last one, it will cause swords to rain down on enemies, dealing up to 4000 magic damage.

Item Build: Guinsoo’s Rageblade > Guardian Angel

NAUTILUS

Nautilus may be cute but I am sure as hell that his attacks are not. With Anchor Slam as his special ability, Nautilus can erupt from the ground beneath his target, knock them up, stun them for as long as 6 seconds and then deal as much as 750 magic damage. To make things even better, all adjacent enemies to their target will receive half of this effect.

RELL

Attract and Repel, that’s how Rell plans on chasing after victory. With this special ability, Rell can leap into the air and then create a tether between herself and her farthest ally. The moment the tether breaks as she lands, she will be able to stun all enemies on her path for as long as 8 seconds. To add, it can also provide as much as 3000 shield for 4 seconds to nearby allies.

VOLIBEAR

With fluffy chocolate brown fur embellished with pink and blue hues, it may seem as if Volibear is a harmless cuddly bear — but, make no mistake. With a special ability called the Doombringer, Volibear is far from nice. This ability allows this fluffy beast to leap towards his target, dealing up to 5000 magic damage, and then knocking up and stunning enemies for as long as 10 seconds.

Item Build: Gargoyle Stoneplate > Sunfire Cape > Warmog’s Armor

Next is TFT Tier List: Origins

TFT TIER LIST: ORIGINS

As we try to familiarize ourselves with the very characteristics of the heroes that would likely take us to victory, we cannot afford to not mention their genesis. We have to talk about their origin! Knowing each hero’s origin will not only help us get the coolest and most badass skin for them, but it will also allow us to understand the “theme” that strongly influences who they are. That said, this jam-packed TFT tier list will also be ranking the 11 origins you can find in TFT Set 5.5 Reckoning: Dawn of Heroes:

S-TIER

  • IRONCLAD
  • REVENANT

A-TIER

TFT TIER LIST: ORIGINS’ DETAILS

As you may have already know, to get the most out of the effects an origin could spell for your team, it’s best to know just how many heroes belonging to that origin you will be needing. B-TIER

ABOMINATION

Brand, Fiddlesticks, Kalista, Nunu & Willump

Whenever a team’s HP goes less than half, Abomination champions can summon Monstrosity and crash into 2 champions, thereby dealing magic damage. (4) 55% of Maximum Health

(8) 120% of Maximum Health

D-TIER

DRACONIC

Next is all about game/ patch updates and FAQs.

TFT: PATCH UPDATES

As promised this ultimate TFT article will also be breezing through some of the monumental changes the recent updates has spelled. Yes, we will not only talk about the hot-off-the-press Patch 11.19 but also the one that went out before it to make sure you are really really up to date. Let’s begin!

Patch 11.18

Last month went off with a bang, thanks to Patch 11.18 that gave rise to a handful of meta balance changes. Patch 11.18 finally readjusted 3-star 4-costs and made them as dangerous as they should be from the very beginning. Radiant items that weren’t getting picked as often were buffed, Hellion trait also got an attack speed buff and then Gragas, Pyke, Jax were buffed as well while Nidalee and Nunu were nerfed. To get a more detailed take on Patch 11.18 you can visit League of Legends’ very own patch notes here.

Mid-Week Patch 11.18

Released just a week after the previous one, Mid-Week Patch 11.18 was all about opening up more late-game frontline options. As explained by Rodger “MINIONSRPEOPLE2” Caudill, this patch spelled nerfs to staple front liners Ivern, Volibear, Vayne, and Yasuo. The Bonus Crit Damage of Assasins was also changed from 30/50/70% to 30/40/50%.

Patch 11.19

In an attempt to continuously balance the game, Patch 11.19 became focused on buffing the underpowered and underplayed comps. Some of the things that were buffed are Ashe, Skirmirshers, the ZZ’Rot Portal, the ZZ’Rot’s Invitation, and the Spear of Hirana. Of course, if there are buffed stuff, there are also some that will get nerfed and in this case, it’s Thresh. Heimerdinger was also adjusted this time around while Tristana and Draven were reworked.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

As the old saying goes “The more, the merrier,” and this idiom couldn’t even be truer in any other game than TFT. That said, I decided to go a little extra on this article and add in a section that will really help newbies (and hopefully get them to be addicted to the game as much as I am BWAHAHAHA). Here are the answers to the FAQs that may be playing in your mind new Little Legends.

What is TFT on LOL?

As previously mentioned, TFT is a spin-off game that uses the same champions you can find in LoL and takes place in the same universe. The only difference is how they are played.

How do I download TFT?

Although TFT is a LoL spin-off that’s played with an entirely different set of rules, it is a game that you cannot play without downloading LoL first. So go ahead, download it (if you haven’t yet — which I have already mentioned is a SHAME) then use your LoL client to get into the world of TFT.

Can I play TFT on my phone?

Thank the heavens, YES! You can check it at Google Play Store for Android phone users and in the App Store for iPhone users. The only problem is it is only available in certain areas of the world so if it still isn’t available in your area, you’ve got nothing else to do but wait.

Is TFT free?

Absolutely!

Is TFT Cross-play?

The LoL gods are amazing which is why they made sure that TFT is with full cross-play support between PC, Mac, and other handheld devices. This is possible because players are required to use the same Riot account for everything including their cosmetics and progression.

How many players are in a lobby?

8 players

What are the modes in TFT you can queue into?

Normal, Ranked, and Hyper Roll

What are the different tiers in TFT’s ranking system?

Just like LOL, TFT’s ranking system consists of nine tiers. Arranged from highest to lowest, they are Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, Challenger. If you are worried that being a newbie will hinder you from playing with your friends who got into the game earlier than you did, then you’ve got nothing to worry about. Thankfully, TFT does not have a level requirement that applies to all modes including Hyper Roll that actually has its own ranking system.

What is hyper roll TFT?

If you think TFT can’t get even more exciting then you are dead wrong. There exists something called Hyper Roll TFT. It is a TFT game mode that is shorter, slimmer but just as amazing. It has a simpler economy that lets Little Legends focus more on fielding the best team and re-rolling your shop as you go ahead. If you want to know a whole lot more about this game mode in TFT, it would be best to visit the official post about it on the official LoL website.

How many tiers are there in Hyper Roll’s ranking system?

There are five and you need a certain number of points to reach them. They are as follows: Grey tier (0 points), Green tier (1,400 points), Blue tier (2,600 points), Purple tier (3,400 points), and Hyper tier (4,200 points).

What are the different stages of TFT?

TFT  showcases three different stages. There’s the PvE round where you will battle it out with different beasts. You can also opt to play the PvP round where you will go against other players. Then, there’s Carousel wherein each player can select a random character with a random item on it. This player who has a lower life total will be the one permitted to move first.

What are Little Legends?

As mentioned, they’re the sprite characters that you move around.

How do you unlock more Little Legends?

There are two different ways you can get more Little Legends. For one, you can buy capsules as a sort of gacha game in the League of Legends client. You can also earn them by progressing through the premium battle pass.

What are the things I have to focus on more as a beginner?

No cap, but TFT can be pretty tricky for people who don’t play games like these often. As a beginner, the things — which I believe — you should focus on are learning the Macro and some basic positioning as well as looking at your components frequently.

  • Learning to Macro means knowing the game economy, building it, and then learning what to do with it. In its simplest sense, it pays to know just how much gold you will need for rolling and leveling.
  • Learning some basic positioning like Pyramid, Reverse Pyramid, full frontline, full backline, scatter, L shape, L shape with dangler. Look them up on the internet, go watch some streams.
  • Yes, experience is a great teacher but so are your opponents. Whenever possible, check them out and use the R button often. Look at what they’re building, see for yourself the comps that are contested, and ponder on how strong their boards are. All these will be helpful when you are grinding.

CONCLUSION

With Patch 11.16 spelling notable changes to one of the most popular spin-offs of League of Legends, we can only expect the game to become even more exciting from here on out. If you are the kind of player who is after a high-level, close to cerebral, type of game — then this article is just for you. However, if you are tough, brave, and courageous enough to weather whatever life (in this case, the unforgiving game of Teamfight Tactics) throws at you or is the type who learns more from experience then I’m sure you’d be just fine (I wholeheartedly hope I am right on this one, though I highly doubt it) even without a TFT Tier List like this one.

If like me, you live and breathe League of Legends, you might enjoy this ultimate LoL Tier List, so go ahead and check it out!
