Intel Z490 Motherboards Are Up For Pre-Order and the Prices Are Eye Watering

Now up for pre-order, Intel Z490 Motherboards will be released on May 20

Later this month, the Comet Lake desktop processor from Intel will go on sale, but the motherboards that support the incoming CPUs are ready for pre-order. The Z490 motherboards with the new LGA 1200 socket have been listed by different manufacturers online.

The Z490 chipsets will end the Z390 and Z370 series. Intel has not yet announced a launch date, though.

There are more than 50 motherboards on Newegg showing a release of May 20, probably when Intel would release the Comet Lake desktop processors. Let’s take a look at the prices and see which motherboards are the most expensive and which boards are less eye-watering.

Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce is listed at $1,300 in the US (£1,200 in the UK)

For that much money, Gigabyte’s Z490 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce is water-cooled, comes with LEDs and hi-fi level audio, notes Tech Radar.

Meanwhile, ASRock is offering the same water-cooling possibilities with their Z490 Aqua, for $1,100. They are also throwing in RGB lighting, and an OLED display to show temperatures and fans speeds.

Gigabyte and MSI’s cheapest boards start at $160

There are also cheaper motherboards from Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte and MSI as well, so you won’t have to spend over $300 for a Z490.

For instance, the Asus Prime Z490M Plus and the ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming 4 are only $150.

MSI also comes with an offer for those that want to trade their old motherboard to buy a new one by adding a voucher of up to $50 on Steam (depending on the new Z490 board’s price).

Now, all we have to do is wait for Intel’s Comet Lake desktop processors.
