QNAP Releases QTS 4.2.2, Adding Exclusive Virtual JBOD Technology: Expand Storage Capacity Using Unused Space from Other QNAP NAS
Taipei, Taiwan, August 24, 2016 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. today announced the release of QTS 4.2.2 – the smart NAS operating system – with its new innovative storage capacity expansion technology. VJBOD (Virtual JBOD) Beta allows users to expand the capacity of a QNAP NAS by using unused storage resources from other QNAP NAS. VJBOD is a great benefit for users with multiple QNAP NAS and helps achieve optimal capacity utilization in a cost-effective way.
“With VJBOD, users can make the best use of available storage resources across multiple QNAP NAS and enjoy a highly-flexible storage expansion solution. With VJBOD and conventional expansion enclosures, users have a wide range of options available to expand the available space of their QNAP NAS.” said Ripple Wu, Product Manager of QNAP.
QNAP VJBOD is network-based JBOD which allows users to allocate storage space from another QNAP NAS iSCSI LUN as an Virtual Disk, then create storage pools, take snapshots, clone snapshots, or index multimedia files into the media library on the local NAS. With VJBOD, a QNAP NAS can use unused storage space from up to 8 remote NAS while at the same time being connected to QNAP expansion enclosures, providing it with massive amounts of storage potential. Moreover, VJBOD can be used in couple with 10GbE/40GbE network and port trunking (link aggregation) to provide users with storage space with high speed and stable connectivity.
VJBOD Beta is now available and can be set up in the Storage Manager. There is a “Create Virtual JBOD” wizard to guide users through the entire setup process. VJBOD Host currently supports the following models: TDS-16489U, TVS-x82 Series, TVS-ECx80U-SAS, SS-x79U-SAS Series, TVS-871T, TVS-x71U Series, TVS-x71 Series, TS-563, TVS-x63 Series, TS-x53U Series, TS-x53S Pro Series, TS-x53A, TBS-453A, IS-453s, TS-451U, TS-x51+ Series, TS-x51 Series, HS-251+, TS-x51A and IS-400 Pro and QTS 4.2.2 (or newer) is required. The remote NAS must support iSCSI LUN and QTS 4.2.1 (or newer) is required.
