Be Quiet! Dark Rock Slim Air Cooler Review

System Config & Installation

Testing Hardware:

  • Asus ROG Maximus XI Formula
  • Intel Core i9-9900K
  • 32GB HyperX Predator RGB 3200Mhz DDR4
  • OCZ RD400 512GB
  • Corsair RM1000 Power supply
  • Windows 10 Professional

We start out by installing our Intel Core i9-9900K into our system.

We then dig out all of the hardware out of the baggie labeled for Intel sockets.

You first install 4 bolts through the backplate and snap the included O-rings over them to keep them in place, as well as using them as spacers.

The backplate sits over the socket backplate and has holes for the ILM bolts to stick through.

On the business side, you install four standoffs as shown.

Afterward, the two mounting arms screw down to these.

We used every bit of the paste included with the cooler to make a small pea-sized blob. We wish Be Quiet would include just a bit more paste in case you need to re-apply. There is exactly what you need for one install and no extra.

After squishing the cooler into place (after removing the clear protective film) we used the crossbar mounting arm to hold it down.

The bracket aligns the cooler and keeps it from sliding side to side.

The last step is to snap the fan over the cooler and plug it in. Now, let’s go see how it does!
