Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The Crucial MX100 feels very much like the M550 that came before it. It also shares the M550’s odd upside down design. What seems to be the top of the drive is actually the bottom The MX100 is a wonderful drive though and has the excellent finish and solid construction I’ve come to expect from Crucial.
ATTO recorded as read speed of 548 MB/s. This almost exactly matches the specification provided by Crucial. ATTO also recorded as write speed of 505 MB/s. This is getting very close to the limit of what the Intel SATA controller on our test motherboard can do. Performance was extremely constant as well, dealing with both compressed and uncompressed data with ease.
The drive is also available in 128GB and 256GB capacities for those on a tighter budget or who just do not need a primary drive on this size. The Crucial MX100 512GB SATA SSD is available online from Newegg for $212.99. This is not an unreasonable price and it is a capable and flexible drive.
