FSP Hydro GE 650W PSU Review

“The Unofficial 700w PSU”

Being new to the FSP Group, I wanted to dig into what FSP was all about, and I was taken aback.

From the top of the line, enthusiast-grade cases and the greenest power storage solutions to amazing modular PSUs, FSP has come a long way now they’re here in the USA, ready to stand their ground and compete with the top contenders. The FPS Hydro GE 650w is just one of the PSUs. This 80plus Gold Standard PSU can handle way more than even I expected, and the modular design is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

What’s in the Box?

Carefully packaged, the Hydro GE PSU has a royally beautiful look but is strong enough to compete with and possibly beat top competitors. You get manual, ribbon-style PSU cables, mounting screws, and stickers to customize your side logo for a full-color build. With the Hydro GE being a modular PSU, the ribbon cables are definitely a high selling point.

It was interesting to see that the words were printed upside down, though mounting usually would keep you from seeing the words in general. The ribbon cables are definitely an improvement over the bulky round cables other units offer. Plugging in each cable was extremely easy.

The Hydro GE PSU has a 20+4 ATX pin, 2/2*4 PCI-E connect for SLI/crossfire, and a 2*4 pin EPS CPU connector, which entirely surprised me, as these are usually reserved for higher wattage PSUs. The motherboards that use the second EPS connection are commonly used for overclocking juice. The peripheral connectors take a spotlight here: no trying to figure out if you have a SATA cable or MOLEX cable because they’re both available on the SAME cable!
