G.SKILL Phoenix Blade 480GB PCIe SSD Review

G.SKILL is one of the move respected names in the computer industry. Established in 1989 by enthusiasts, they have become one the leading memory module manufacturers. They also have one the most extensive range of computer memory products available. They have 13 different series of desktop memory alone.

G.SKILL decided some time ago to branch out to the SSD market. Their SSD product have pretty much stayed under the radar, but G.SkILL apparently is looking to change all that with the Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD. Rated at 2000MB/s in both read and write, it is certainly fast. The Phoenix Blade is not a native PCIe, though it utilizes a PCIe 2.0 x8 interface. Instead, there are four SandForce SF-2282 controllers in RAID 0. Each SF-2282 controller is connected to eight 16GB Toshiba 64Gbit 19nm MLC NAND packages. Perhaps the most interesting feature on the Phoenix Blade is its endurance rating of 1536TB or 1.4TB per day. No, that isn’t a typo.

G.SKILL’s take on the Phoenix Blade 480GB PCIe SSD

Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD – The Next Evolution of Extreme Storage

Designed with the latest flash-based solid state storage technology and integrating error correction and failure handling support, G.SKILL Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD is the perfect storage solution for extreme gaming, professional graphic design, industrial design, and HD video & audio content creation.

PCIe Gen 2.0 x8 Interface & x4 SSD Controllers in RAID0 Setup

Designed on a PCIe Gen 2.0 x8 interface and built with x4 SF-2281 SSD controllers in a RAID 0 setup, improves read and write performance up to 4 times as fast as a typical SATA3 SSD. With a streamlined dataflow design, integrated with a massive 480GB array of MLC flash, the Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD eliminates bottlenecks in data transfer lanes, as well as reading and writing to and from the massive flash storage array.

Up to 2,000MB/s Extreme Read and Write Performance

With 480 gigabytes of storage capacity, the G.SKILL Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD is pushing the maximum limit of read and write speeds at up to 2,000MB per second, so large data transfers are faster than ever!

Up to 245K IOPS 4KB Random Write

G.SKILL Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD delivers an incredibly fast 245K IOPS! Experience the performance boost in data intensive processing, such as professional graphic/industrial design and HD multimedia content creation software applications.

Enhanced Data Protection

CRC data protection prevents data that is being transferred in and out of the drive from being corrupted. By implementing BCH ECC of up to 55 bits per sector and RAID-5-like data protection, flash cell errors and page/block failures are yesterday’s news.

Extensive S.M.A.R.T. Attributes

Offering an extensive set of S.M.A.R.T. attributes allow users to monitor the drive’s health, this feature allows the users to take preventative measures against possible data loss.

Extend SSD Lifetime with TRIM and SCSI UNMAP

TRIM and SCSI UNMAP support with major Windows OS versions help maintain consistent write performance, reduce flash deterioration, and most importantly, extend product lifetime.

3-Year Limited Warranty and Full Technical Support

G.SKILL Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD includes a 3-year limited warranty and full technical support from our tech support team.
