Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The GIGABYTE X299 AORUS Gaming 9 motherboard, being the top-of-the-line X299 offering from GIGABYTE, sure does make one expectation high about the board and based on my experience, it does deliver such high expectations in both performance and aesthetics.
The new high-end desktop platform from Intel featuring the Intel Core-X Series processors was welcomed with a few praises and a few disappointments as well. One particular issue was the VRM heat sink design that was pointed out by world renowned overclocker ‘der8auer’ wherein some X299 motherboard models didn’t even get his approval. Fortunately, one of the X299 boards that passes his strict and high-standard test is the GIGABYTE X299 AORUS Gaming 9. Given my experience with the 4.5GHz overclock which is deemed to be the peak of achievable overclocks without extreme cooling methodologies, the board’s VRM design and overall layout did well with such overclocked configurations and delivered benchmark results that was indeed significantly better. Performance-wise, you would want to grab a GIGABYTE X299 AORUS Gaming 9 motherboard if you want to harness the power of an Intel Core i9 LGA 2066 processor.
Moving on to aesthetics, since builders nowadays consider this a major thing in buying PC hardware, the GIGABYTE X299 AORUS Gaming 9 motherboard offer both the option of going black and stealthy with all LED lighting off, to “party-inside-my-computer” kind of ambiance with all LED lighting zones and cool lighting effects turned on. You’ll also get more than just the motherboard with GIGABYTE bundling the X299 AORUS Gaming 9 with premium sleeved SATA cables, a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD add-in-card and accessories exclusive to top-end models from the brand.
The GIGABYTE X299 AORUS Gaming 9 is currently available at Amazon and Newegg for $499.99, quite a significant investment but also considering that Intel Core i9 processors costs twice as much and even more. Most certainly, high-end desktop builds aren’t really for gaming alone. If you need a mighty workstation build for your video editing or other professional creative content applications, this motherboard might just suit your needs.
