Recently, M.2 SSD’s have been released to the market. M.2 is designed to replace the order mSATA standard and offer higher speeds. The drives are available in two versions, SATA and PCIe. SATA drives offer comparable speeds to common 2.5 inch SSD’s, while PCIe drives can offer speeds up to 10 Gb/s or higher.
Today we will be looking at Kingston’s HyperX Predator 480GB M.2 PCIe SSD. Kingston will be offering this drive in a M.2 form factor or paired with an optional half-height, half-length (HHHL) adapter for use on desktop motherboards without a built-in M.2 socket. It features read speeds of up to 1.4GB/s and write speeds of up to 1GB/s via a Marvell 88SS9293 controller and Toshiba A19 Toggle NAND.
The HyperX Predator PCIe SSD line is available now in both 240GB and 480GB capacities. Kingston is currently working on a monster 960GB version, with a release planned for Q3 2015.
Kingston’s take on the HyperX Predator 480GB PCIe SSD
Ferocious performance for serious users.
HyperX® Predator SSD offers large capacities and incredible speeds with both compressible and incompressible data to take your system to the edge. Faster than SATA-based SSDs, it delivers speeds up to 1400MB/s read and 1000MB/s write for ultra-responsive multitasking and an overall faster system.
It features a PCIe Gen 2.0 x4 interface for high performance and an M.2 form factor to fit the next generation of desktops with an M.2 PCIe slot. A Half-Height, Half-Length (HHHL) adapter that works with many existing motherboards with at least a PCIe x4 slot open is available. The HHHL adapter comes with both standard and low-profile brackets to fit in slim profile desktop builds.
