MSI X299 MEG Creation Motherboard Review

System Configuration & BIOS

For the Purpose of this review, we’ll load this system up with the following:

  • Intel Core i9-7900X
  • Nvidia RTX 2080 FE
  • 32GB Corsair Dominator SE Ram
  • Toshiba RC400 480GB
  • Corsair RM1000 PSU

If you’ve used many MSI boards in the last few years, you should be fairly familiar with MSI’s Click BIOS 5 setup. You start out in the EZ Mode like pictured above by default, and are presented most of what you need right from this screen. The first page shows your CPU status.

The second page shows your ram settings and current status.

Page three takes care of storage.

Page for covers your fans and cooling profiles.

You can get very detailed with the fan and cooling profiles if you need, but the standard smart mode is plenty fine to get started with for our purpose.

If you really need to drill down and tweak, switching over to the advanced mode via pressing F7 or clicking the button at the top brings you here. You have all of the same basic information available via different buttons, but their menus are far more detailed.

Important settings like Security and Boot, as well as all the advanced settings like integrated peripherals, can be found drilling down from here.

The things we will be most interested in will be the OC settings shown here. This is too large a list to show here without adding 20 more pages to this review, but if it can be tweaked, you can find it in here.

The OC Profile button brings you here where you can store and load up to 6 profiles on board, and import and export them as you see fit.

The Board Explorer shows you what hardware is detected, and hovering over it gives you more detail.
