Packaging & A Closer Look

The front of the packaging shows us the SSD Enclosure. The packaging is mainly white with blue accents. On the top of the packaging is the brand name with their logo. On the bottom of the packaging shows that this device is rated for transfer speeds of 10Gbps. Other notable features along the bottom show that the device is made from Aluminum Alloy, has a USB type-c interface and uses the UASP protocol.

The sides of the packaging are blue with the left side giving the product name and a QR code, this code will take you to their website. The right side has the brand name, Orico with their logo and another QR code, this code takes you WeChat.

On the back of the package we see a picture of the device plugged into a laptop. Underneath that we have product specs in English and Chinese. Below the product specs is contact information for Orico.

Removing the tray from the outer packaging we see the USB Enclosure in a black plastic tray.

Removing the rear cover of the SSD enclosure we can see the PCB. This controller has support built for 2230,2242,2260, and 2280. Shown is multi-hole cooling coppers bars, this is for rapid heat dissipation and better performance. Here we can see that this is a typical m-key configuration, and m-sata drive will not work in this enclosure.

Removal of the PCB is pretty straight forward. I was able to use the included screw driver and pry the PCB from the bottom piece, there are notches that the PCB sits in to help with alignment. Here we can see 4 thermal pads to help with heat dissipation.

I was unable to see the brand of memory controller based off of some residue from the thermal pads.

Installation of the NVME drive into the enclosure is very easy. Included is a bronze standoff screw that slides into the notch of the drive. After installing the drive into the key, place the standoff piece in the notch and secure with the included screw from the back side of the board. This will help keep the drive in place. Install the bottom piece of the enclosure, and secure with the shorter enclosed screw and you’re done.
