Final Thoughts & Conclusion
Patriot’s EVLVR Thunderbolt 3 External SSD is easily one of the fastest portable drives we’ve tested to date. The Thunderbolt 3 interface is incredibly powerful and can handle more than just storage, even if that is all we are doing here. The USB Type-C connection is everywhere these days, but unfortunately, the vast majority of them do not support Thunderbolt. And yes, we tried on a normal Type-C USB, it doesn’t work. Windows will tell you an unsupported device is connected.
If you do have a few Thunderbolt 3 equipped devices to move data between, this is a no-brainer. Even if you have a single device that supports it such as a laptop, this makes for a portable expansion your storage and will probably be just as fast if not faster than your internal drive. We can see this being a major plus for Content Creators on the go that needs a large pool of fast storage for working with video files and such.
Long story short, The Thunderbolt 3 market is a little sparse at the moment, but if you can take advantage of it, Patriot has a great drive that might just be what you have been looking for. It certainly puts USB devices to shame. There is a price premium for that speed over a standard USB flash drive, but time is money.
Great job Patriot!
