SUPERO Pro Gaming C9Z390-PGW Z390 Motherboard

Intel’s Core i9-9900K is capable of boosting to 5.0GHz out of the box in its default state when only 1 or 2 cores are in use. Let’s see if we can go further.

Our particular Intel Core i9-9900K has proven to be able to hit 5.0GHz on all cores on every board we’ve tested so far, so we’ll just jump to that first. The C9Z390-PGW has several presets in the BIOS, one of which is 5.0 GHz and as you can see here, the PGW board has no issues running at this level.

We let SUPERO’s software utility try it’s hand next, and it gives us 5.1GHz.

5.1GHz has been about the limit of this particular CPU on most boards, but SUPERO has no issues getting it there, but the voltage is a little high which causes some thermal throttling, even on water cooling.

We were able to manual push up to 5.2GHz, but we see very little increase in score inside Cinebench.

Intel’s XTU utility shows we are hitting a current limit at this point, which is what is keeping our score from climbing any further. With a little fine-tuning, 5.1GHz would be a good daily speed for this combination. We are pushing our self-imposed thermal limit of 90C at this point, The CPU can technically go further, but we stick to this limit.
