StoreJet external hard drives are powered directly via your computer’s USB port. However, some computers may not be able to supply enough power by using just one USB port. If your StoreJet drive does not function properly, connect both ends of the USB Y-cable to two USB ports on your computer to ensure the StoreJet drive receives sufficient power. Please also avoid using a USB HUB when connecting the StoreJet drive to your computer to avoid the possibility of insufficient power supply. Please do not break or remove the warranty sticker on your StoreJet, as this will void your product warranty.

Let’s take a closer look at the StoreJet 25A3 in the next page.

Packaging, Unboxing and a Closer Look

The Storejet 25A3 comes packaged in a full-color box with a window to view the actual product inside.

The back side of the box lists all of the features and specifications for the drive.

The drive itself comes with a nice protective film covering the simple honeycomb-like pattern on the front.

The back side has a nice textured finish with the product’s label on the bottom.

The top side of the drive has a one-touch backup button and the connection for the USB 3.0 cable.

And finally the package contains the USB 3.0 cable, warranty booklet and related products flyers.
Let’s test out the StoreJet 25A3 under USB 2.0 and see how it performs.

Testing – USB 2.0

Testing with the ATTO disk benchmarking program we see that the USB 2.0 speeds are pretty typical with write speeds peaking around 30MB/S and read speeds peaking out around 33.6MB/sec.

HDTune Pro gave similar results to ATTO – averaging at 33.3MB/sec. read times.

Crystal Disk Mark shows similar results to ATTO for the sequential read/write tests. The 4K results are not relevant here since this is a storage drive and sequential results are indicative of those needs, not suitability as an OS drive. You’ll also notice here that when the 1TB drive is formatted you end up with 931GB of usable space, which is typical.

Let’s move on and test the StoreJet 25A3 with USB 3.0 and see how it performs!

Testing – USB 3.0

Testing with ATTO on USB 3.0 shows a huge increase in speed in both read and write times – peaking at around 121.4MB/sec. for write and around 119.5MB for Read. That’s a 400%+ and a 350%+ increase in speed, respectively.

HDTune Pro gave similar results to ATTO – averaging at 83.7MB/sec. read times. With a maximum of 111.7MB/S

Crystal Disk Mark shows similar results to ATTO for the sequential read/write tests. The 4K results are not relevant here since this is a storage drive and sequential results are indicative of those needs, not suitability as an OS drive. Crystal also shows a ~350% increase in read speeds and a 390% increase in write speeds in sequential testing.

Let’s wrap up this review with some final thoughts.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Transcend has a winner with the StoreJet 25A3 1TB USB 3.0 external HDD. USB 2.0 performance was expected but the HUGE increase in USB 3.0 performance is just awesome. The StoreJet 25A3 comes in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB flavors as well as both black or white and carries a 3-year limited warranty which is great.
