Gaming headsets are all the rage but when we heard about the all wood construction of the Sound BlasterX Kratos S5 2.1 Gaming Speaker System we had to get hands on a set. Being fans of the original Sound Blaster products our enthusiasm extends to the Sound BlasterX series of products and the Kratos S5 coming in at a pocket friendly $129.00 (When on sale $99.99) we wondered what the return to wood speaker boxes had to offer.

The Sound BlasterX Kratos S5 2.1 Gaming Speaker System came in and we were blown away by the 16.8 million color RGB and this is our first set of RGB speakers and our first wooden computer speakers in many years. We came across a set of 2.0 wooden speakers from a discount website some 20 years ago and literally used them until they fell apart. The rich tones produced by wood construction speakers sticks with you and can’t be reproduced by plastic box speakers.

Driven by a total watt output of 60 Watts, the 4 ½ inch satellites produce 12W per while the Sub produces 36W from its 6 ½ inch subwoofer.  The Frequency response range runs 55Hz – 20KHz with an input voltage of 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 1.3A.

The Kratos S5 uses a hand control “Hockey Puck” for general volume control that also features a microphone in and 3.5mm stereo out. We’ll touch on it a little later but the flexibility of this 2.1 will blow your mind almost as much as the sweet reverberations from the wooden boxes.
