Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The Gigabyte Z170 Gaming lineup has been causing quite a bit of commotion since photos started surfacing a few of weeks ago and for good reason. The new cosmetics really set it apart from the other manufacture’s products. People seem to really like and to be quite frank so do I.
True beauty is more than skin deep however and the Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 is more than just a bit of flash. All the headers, ports, and switches and seem logically placed. Performance was exactly as expected and there were no surprises. All the key gaming features are here and work just like they are supposed to.
The overclocking prowess is quite impressive. Most overclockers will be quite satified with its ability to get big numbers. We actually hit the limitation of our voltage comfort zone before we hit the limit of the motherboard. The upper limit of 1.8v is quite high given that Skylake is on a 14nm process and not something I would care to explore without extreme cooling. When set to a far more comfortable 1.4v, our i7 6700K will run at 4.8GHz all day long.
The Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 can be found at Amazon and Newegg for $219.99. This is starting to point towards the upper end of the Z170 price scale. The price is still fair though and it is sure to be a popular option for gamers and modders alike.
