ADATA DashDrive UD310 Jewel-Like Flash Drive Review

Introduction

The number one reasons for buying a USB flash drive its ease to access storage and its small structure. These two reasons make having a flash drive the easiest way to transport data from one location to another. From as back as I can remember these drives have been pretty small, no longer than a couple of inches long. And the drive capacity can get as larger as 128GB, making it pretty pointless to carry a portable hard drive in many cases.

Companies like ADATA have been capitalizing on the popularity of flash drives while at the same time advance the technology behind them to make them more durable, smaller as well as faster when it comes to data transfer. A sparkling jewel-like faceted end-cap highlights the ultra-small and extremely portable design of the UD310, taking up minimal space when used in a laptop or desktop. It allows for the unlimited sharing of pictures, music and videos, making the UD310 an ideal accessory for Ultrabook computers and many slim and sophisticated electronic devices, while reassuring users that their valuable data is protected at all times.

Advanced COB Manufacturing Process Yields Protection from Water Damage

The UD310 is manufactured through a special chip-on-board (COB) process, resulting in high water and impact resistance for the drive. It is engineered to be of the utmost quality and reliability, and further guaranteed by ADATA’s lifetime warranty.

Ultra Small, Ultra Convenient

Sometimes you just want to leave your USB Flash drive connected to your computer for days at a time. With its sleek low profile, the UD310 can stay connected for long periods of time without interfering with your other USB devices. The UD310 comes in capacities of 8, 16, and 32 gigabytes.

Closer look

The UD310 was designed to be very small and draw a little attention. The drive is a little more than .7” taller and about as thick as four pennies stacked on top of one another. The reason for the shorten length is to keep them from been an obstruction when plugged into the USB port of a laptop.

The UD310 comes in red and black as well as three different sizes which would be 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. The drive works best on the USB 2.0 protocol but is backwards compatible to USB 1.1 and we had no issues testing it in a USB 3.0 port.

ADATA seen the US310 though a COB or chip-on-board process to allow the drive to maintain the durable one would want in a drive of this type. This basically means that the drive has a very high level of resistance to water and impact damage.

The drive has a gen-like shape to it making it very stylish. Once inserted in to a port it only sticks out about a 1/4" making it less of a hazard.

Once out of the rubber shell the drive is rather small making it a like more difficult to find if you were to drop it or to miss place it. There is no type of loop or lanyard device to keep it secured to anything like your keychain.

Quick performance test
We ran a quick test with CrystalDiskMark to see how speedy the drive is. One most remember speed isn’t what this drive is about, it is secure.

CrystalDiskMark 3.0
CrystalDiskMark is designed to quickly test the performance of your hard drives. Currently, the program allows to measure sequential and random read/write speeds.

ATTO Disk Benchmark
The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes. Several options are available to customize your performance measurement including queue depth, overlapped I/O and even a comparison mode with the option to run continuously. Use ATTO Disk Benchmark to test any manufacturers RAID controllers, storage controllers, host adapters, hard drives and SSD drives and notice that ATTO products will consistently provide the highest level of performance to your storage.

Conclusion

The UD310 flash drive from ADATA is ultra small and extremely portable and this is what they intended with its production. But don’t let the small size fool you as it is made to be very durable leaving one not to worry about dropping it or having water come into contact with it.

The UD310 is not the fastest drive that ADATA makes; you would have to venture over to the likes of the S102 Pro and others that run using your fast USB 3.0 ports. The UD310 is designed around USB 2.0, which everyone has or should have anyways.

Even though it isn't the fastest I did not have any problems transferring photos or short video clips from my PC to the living room television to better view them.

The UD310 is a great little drive to have around. But because of its size it can easily be misplaced if not careful. The drive has no way to connecting a lanyard to help keep up with it, so if you purchase one be careful.

The drive comes in three sizes 8GB for $8, 16GB for $13 and 32GB for $22, all which are not bad prices.
