When EVGA releases a top of the (consumer) line graphics card it’s time to wake up and smell the capacitors. EVGA was kind enough to send us an EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING 11GB GDDR5X, with ICX technology and any day that happens it’s time for the happy dance! To get a bit geeky we are talking a GP 102-350 core boasting 3584 Cuda Cores with 224 TMU’s, 88 ROPS, 11GB GDDR5X running across a 352 Bit-Bus. Frankly, that’s more graphics computing power than 90% of end users are likely to ever have or need.
At Computex this year, Intel officially announced its new HEDT (High-End Desktop) platform based on a new 2066 pin socket and X299 chipset. Intel, with a lineup extending from quad-cores up to an unheard of 18 core CPU, had enthusiasts and professional users foaming at the mouth only to end up crestfallen to learn these high core count parts would not be available at launch or even shortly after. Team Red managed to steal the spotlight for a few weeks with the first 12 and 16 core consumer-oriented CPU’s landing on store shelves, but today Intel retakes the throne. With the official launch of the long-awaited last three SKU’s in the lineup, the fourteen core i9-7940X, sixteen-core Core i9-7960X and the monster eighteen-core Core i9-7980XE Extreme Edition, Intel once again hold the title of “The most cores and threads in a consumer CPU”.
The First Asus Rampage Extreme was released in 2008 for the first Core 2 Duo/Quad processors and brought the very best of every category to that platform, and each generation after Asus has done the same. Five major generations later, we get the ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme for Intel’s X299 ecosystem. Following Tradition, this Rampage Extreme has the very best technologies and features available today, and are even borrows a bit of tomorrow’s tech as well.
Kingston has had a wide variety of storage devices but until now they haven’t ventured into the NVME market. With the Kingston KC1000 M.2 2280 480GB NVMe MLC Internal Solid State Drive that has changed and Kingston has dipped their proverbial storage foot into the NVME arena. We’ve seen PCIe SATA, and M.2 devices from Kingston and many of them were impressive like the Kingston Savage PCIe they released a couple of years ago.
While BIOSTAR is known for motherboards, they too now have SSDs to offer and their newest offerings is the G330 SSD Series which we will be looking at today. The BIOSTAR G330 SSD uses the standard 2.5-inch form factor and packs a SMI 2258 controller and SK Hynix DRAM cache. Let us see how well will the BIOSTAR G330 do in our tests using Intel’s latest HEDT offerings.
When it comes to packing features on a motherboard at an affordable price Asrock is the absolute king! The ASRock X299 Killer SLI/ac LGA 2066 Intel X299 Motherboard has more features packed into it than a US Navy Guided missile! We are talking triple M.2 slots, Intel Optane supported, USB 3.1 Gen 2 bot Type-A and Type-C, 60A power chokes 11 phase power, metal covered reinforced video card slots, Nichicon 12K Black Caps, and Asrock Hyper BCLK Engine III. Yes, it's impossible to beat Asrocks price/feature set and seldom do you see any manufacturers board performing better!
APEX – noun – ‘the highest or culminating point’. APEX is a very fitting name for a motherboard built to do one thing: Break records. The culmination of just shy of three decades of experience manufacturing computer hardware, the ROG Rampage VI APEX takes ASUS’s industry leading experience building some of the most extreme overclocking capable components and rolls them all into one record breaking platform, taunting every other board on the market claiming to have some level over overclocking prowess.
