Introduction

Computer systems are becoming more and more powerful every day. Super-fast processors are pushing calculation are razer speeds, video games are making gameplay as fluid as it has ever been and storage arrays are getting larger by the day, so a good efficient power supply is needed.

The nice thing is large wattage powers are not. All these components are getting more powerful or even larger but require less power than before. So, with a good 80Plus rated PSU and about 750-800 watts you can build a great rig and not worry much about your electrical bill.

Closer look

The 750W model like the rest of the series share a 80 PLUS Platinum certification. This means the unit was capable of maintain an energy efficiency of 89% at 100% load.

The outside of the Rosewill unit is a rugged and very robust texture, one that we have seen demonstrated on many power supplies before. Not looking like it from the studio photos below the unit does flow with the smoothness that most case interior have.

To cool the unit a 135mm fan is employed. The spinner is PWM controlled and should do well enough to keep the power supply cool and working perfectly for some time.

The ‘Fortress’ name is printed large on both elongated sides of the unit.

The rear of the unit has the typical honeycomb shaped vent openings.

Now, we see that the Rosewill PSU is not a modular unit. Yes, that is right all the cables are permanently attached to the unit. If you are looking for a modular unit than the Hive series from Rosewill would be the one to check out.

All the extensions of the unit are nicely sleeved.

Results

We know that testing a power supply on a loaded system is not the very best way to do so, but you cannot overlook real world testing. Other sites have methods that use thousands of dollars in equipment to provide them greater detail. We have a trusty digital multimeter. Those sites and the methods they use should be the true means of determining how good a power supply really is; however, we feel that showing you how it performs under real world conditions is also a valid measure of its performance.

Conclusion

Remember our tests are very simple but is done in a way that many people can understand. And during these tests we show the Rosewill Fortress perform pretty well. So, well that it remains on one of our test benches to this very day. At 750 watt, it has enough power to build a very nice rig around and that would include a couple of mid-range graphic cards for a gaming system.

Spot testing it in a couple of mi towers we had no issues with the length of cables. The cables are very nicely sleeved as well. The one thing we can see people not being really fund of the Fortress is because it is not modular. Remember not everyone have chosen to go that route. But if you must there is always the Hive series also from Rosewill.

The Fortress does consist of lower wattage models for those that do not need as much power like the HTPC builders and SFF users. But if you do need large amounts of power look to the Lightning series for that.
